NON-SURGICAL PERIODONTAL THERAPY

At your new patient visit, we will take measurements of your gums' pockets to assess their health. If your periodontal pockets are 4mm or deeper and exhibits bleeding upon probing, additional periodontal treatment will be recommended.

It is important to have optimal gingival health because if not, you run the risk of major overall issues. Gum disease is linked to stroke, heart disease, respiratory issues, osteoporosis, diabetes, low birth weight and dementia.

WHAT IS GUM DISEASE?

It is an infection of the gum and supporting tissue around the teeth. It all starts as soft plaque, and then it hardens into calculus. The calculus then acts as an irritant to the tissue. If it is not removed in a timely fashion, a gingival infection occurs. As gum disease advances, it is now called periodontitis since the infection has reached into the surrounding bone structure around the teeth, and flattening and gapping is created with advanced gum disease.

You can prevent further disintegration of gum and bone tissue by having the following non-surgical treatment. A series of root planning and deep scaling procedures are recommended. The scaling removes the hardened plaque from below the gum line. The root planning procedure reduces the roughness area of the teeth and root. Advanced periodontal cases will require further treatment. We would refer you to a trusted colleague who is a Periodontist.

TMJ/NEUROMUSCULAR THERAPY & BIOESTHETIC DENTISTRY

If you have any of the following, you may have TMJ Disorder:
  • Headache/migraine
  • Chronic earache
  • Popping or clicking in the jaw joint
  • Pain in your head, neck, shoulder, face or jaw
  • Teeth grinding/bruxism
  • Tooth wear, breakage or cracking
  • Back pain
  • Tingling finger
  • Bioesthetic Dentistry

NEUROMUSCULAR DENTISTRY

Neuromuscular dentistry deals with the mouth as a system that involves the teeth, jaw and bite/occlusion. When your jaw joints are not properly aligned, it is a result of an orofacial myofunctional disorder. Nerves become over stimulated and the muscles in your face and neck become fatigued, and your body can be in severe pain.

BIOESTHETIC DENTISTRY

Bioesthetic Dentistry accepts natural form as the basis for comprehensive diagnosis and rehabilitation. The following disorders will be treated in wearing possibly an orthotic/splint for a short period of time to help your muscles rest and reduce the fatigue in your jaw and neck. Other treatment can result in possibly changing your bite completely by rebuilding your teeth so your jaw is in harmony and your face and body are out of pain. We work with a team of specialists to accomplish your treatment in more advanced cases. You may be referred to one of several of the following specialists, including physical therapists, oral surgeons, orthodontists, and periodontists.
Call and schedule a consultation today with Dr. Drew Wiltman at (440) 835-2317. He will take the time to discuss your immediate concerns and long-term esthetic goals.
